On November 25th UW Blockchain Society, the student organization turned non-profit founded at UW Seattle, hosted a "WTF is Blockchain" event at their UW Bothell campus. The purpose of the event was to introduce blockchain basics with applications in its fields such as cryptocurrency, healthcare, insurance, government, music, identification, supply chain, data management, and many more. The hope is that by understanding the fundamental mechanisms that power blockchain, students will be able to join the conversation and discover use cases for blockchain in their own lives and work.
Over 100 students attended the catered event, sponsored by Microsoft and MouseBelt. UW Blockchain Society has been a member of the MouseBelt University Program since it's inception and this is just the latest event which MouseBelt has been involved with in the past. MouseBelt also sponsored and attended the UW Blockchain Expo during Seattle Blockchain Week last year.
Co-founder, Zack Nelson had this to say about the event:
"Our event at UW Bothell was one of the most attended club events of the entire quarter with over 100 students attending from all majors. We were excited to connect more university students with the fast growing and innovative Mousebelt university program as well as with Microsoft engineers. We are confident that this event is further proof of the huge demand for blockchain events and education on college campuses and we are grateful to be able to grow with Mousebelt as the industry rapidly expands."
The event was also an opportunity for the rapidly expanding organization to recruit new officers, which will give member the opportuinty to gain valuable experience in the blockchain space as program managers, software developers, graphic designers, social media, and business/finance.
